A 3rd-year mid-career student at Mekele University, namely, Hamisha G/Egiziabher, is using her Supervised Enterprise Project (SEPs) to promote row planting of picaflor wheat variety in Tserea Womberta District’s Molano Kebele where most farmers are using broadcasting method.
Picaflor wheat is one of high-yielding and disease-resistant wheat varieties widely used by the farmers in her project area.
The average yield amount of wheat using the broadcasting method is 16 quintals per hectare in the District. Using the row planting technique, however, Hamisha has planned to increase the yield by 27%, i.e., she expects to harvest 28 quintals of wheat from one hectare of land. She will organize a field day by the end of September 2024 to demonstrate the efficiency and benefits of wheat row planting technique to other farmers in the District.
Hamisha, a mother of two, and a third-year student at the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, will
