Center for Peace and Reconciliation (CPR) CLG provided Peace Education Training to Undergraduate Students of Mekelle University.
Mekelle University College of Law and Governance, Center for Peace and Reconciliation in collaboration with British Council Ethiopia provided Peace Education Training to Undergraduate Students of Mekelle University from 15 June to 18 June, 2024 at the Mekelle University American Corner. Forty (40) students (12 female) drawn from the departments of Political science, Law, Civics, Economics, Journalism and Communication, Public Relations, Social work and others participated in the training.
The training was given by Dr. Daniel Sheinwald, a professional and experienced educator and trainer in Peace education and the pedagogy of Peace education, from London, England. Through the famous ‘Pedagogy of World Peace Game’, Dr. Daniel, trained the students how to use multiple practical approaches, strategies and skills to solve multi-faceted world crises ranging from arms race and nuclear proliferations, insurgencies and wars, human rights violations, migration and refugee crisis to natural disasters and global warming.
The students were given case studies, role-play exercises, self-check exercises to practically exercise and master the contents of the training in the module guide. From the practical exercises they played, the students learned the importance of keeping a delicate balance between competitive and collaborative behaviors and actions to solve conflicts and crisis in a win-win way and also the importance of negotiation and diplomacy and legal and economic means to solve conflicts even as high as world crises.
The students are finally certified for the training they received and both Mekelle University CLG, Center for Peace and Reconciliation and British Council Ethiopia hope that they will make the best use of the knowledge and skills they gained from the training to live themselves in peace in the groups, communities and environment around them and to educate and influence others to live together in peace.
Mekelle University CLG, Center for Peace and Reconciliation is grateful to British Council Ethiopia for supporting the training and in particular to the team that come to Mekelle University representing the institution for effectively facilitating the training process.
